Stefan Duran: 'Our grief coaching is unique'

Those who suddenly lose a partner are more likely to suffer medical complaints. Insurer elipsLife offers support to precisely those people. “As a socially engaged company, we are the ‘S’ within the United Nations’ ESG goals,” says elipsLife.

“We are a specialised insurer”, says Stefan Duran, Head Business Development at elipsLife. “We only insure disability and death risks for the business market.: The insurer does this as part of pension schemes, WIA supplement insurance and ANW gap insurance. “We are there the moment things  go wrong with a company’s employees”, he says. This may inlcude medical problems, which prevent an employee from working. “And if an insured person dies, we are there for the next of kin.”

Every year, about five hundred policyholders enter new elipsLife benefits due to disability. And the same is true when it comes to the number of survivor benefits. “ In this way, we provide a thousand new families with an income every year,” he says.

Socially conscious company

Duran puts elipsLife’s activities alongside the United Nations’ ESG headline goals. “One of those goals is ensure as a company that employees have income security. And that’s what we do every day, we are the S of Social within the ESG criteria.”

elipsLife is, in short, a socially-minded company. It operates under the ‘We care’ banner. “We care about dependents and about incapacitated employees. And we care about the health of employees in organisations.” Thus, elipsLife, with partners, ensures that employees who call in sick get well again as soon as possible. Duran: ‘We also help companies fulfil their gatekeepers obligations. And we lower barriers for employees when returning to work.”

Grief coaching

elipsLife goes further than other insurers, as in providing care to bereaved families. This mainly involves grief counseling. “Research shows that people who lose a partner are 50 per cent more likely to have medical complaints,” Duran stats. “These are regularly relatively young people with families. At first, they still get help after a death, but those friends and acquaintances do pick up their own livers again. At that point, the grief coaching we offer in the first three years after a death can really be a godsend. “ And if care is needed, elipsLife make sure it is delivered quickly. “ This so that  bereaved families can pick up their lives again.
